Let’s never acknowledge anything by simply telling them - “I see you”, “I get it”, “I understand your feelings” when someone reveals anything about their internal states.
Give a readback (another aviation world term, like the one in the title) - repeat and paraphrase - not only avoiding misconceptions, but also allowing yourself to fully understand the problem.
There was a reason why aviation radio protocols require readbacks instead of simple Rogers. Miscommunication can lead to tragedies, as history showed in this industry, and I strongly believe that it is similarly grave issue elsewhere. On private and personal plane (I mean, area!) it’s as much important to ensure proper understanding, plus any re-phrase/paraphrase is also activating our brains to better focus on the topic. Effort matters, let’s build a habit of such small efforts in any conversation which matters.
