Unpopular artists whose unpopularity I cannot understand
Yom (Guillaume Humery) et al.
Virtuoso of clarinet, totally serendipitous encounter on Spotify around a year (2?) ago, and keeps me returning over and over! If you search the term outside of music services, would bring a hebraic term יום instead of the persona. He is extremely expressive with his crying overblows and sentimental, un-ending low flows. Often mixed with electronic rhythms, was quite a refreshing re-framing for the instrument I mainly remembered from symphony orchestra arrangements.
Album “With Love”
IMHO his most iconic album. Full spectrum, unforgettable pieces, frivolous themes and naming.
Album “Le Rythme du Silence”
With cellist/bassist Ceccaldi - more contemplative, great “night-time” album for me. (Ehh.. If only Guingamp was not that far from me at this point in time, I’d happily see their mid-week concert in May ‘26…)
Nym
2026 find. Musically slightly different league, but this list doesn’t have to fit any frameworks. “Instrumental hip hop music written by a gardener. These are songs about abandoning anthropocentrism and everything downstream of it.”
Bright tunes for easy-listening and making your day sunnier.

Blockhead
Again, instrumental hip hop from the US, but from early on - has been working with legendary London-based independent label Ninja Tunes. I realised I got a lot to catch up on newer albums!
Music by Cavelight - his first album

Had been on repeat for long months when I discovered it during my Uni days. Soundscapes like the one from ‘You’ve got Maelstrom’ are engraved in my brain forever.
